“Esteban Card’s music has opened a portal”

Esteban Card is a London-based Colombian artist presenting a distinctive twist on folkloric Colombian music. His innovative mixture of traditional drums and organic contemporary sounds represents a forward-facing musical identity anchored to his roots. Esteban’s trance-inducing soundscape creates an arresting alternative to better-known Latin American styles, performing live in a captivating 7-piece format.

Esteban Card’s debut studio album INELEMENTUM channels diasporic sentiments of Colombia’s African heritage via Bullerengue and Cumbia rhythms, with a thought-provoking modern-day awareness. Demonstrating the global relevance and power of these ancestral rhythms, his AfroColombiaBeat production stamp has been embraced by audiences across the UK, at venues including Rich Mix, Wilderness Festival, Hootananny, Juju’s Bar, Arts By The Sea Festival, and met with critical acclaim by tastemakers Gilles Peterson and Alex Wharton.

INELEMENTUM is rooted to Bullerengue and Cumbia with a modern-day awareness. It was released on the 6th of June 2019 with a multidisciplinary show including music, traditional dance, tailored visuals and lighting. The album was mastered at the renowned Abbey Road Studios by Alex Wharton who has done works for Radiohead, The Beatles, The Pixies, Marvin Gaye and the list goes on and on. After releasing the album Abbey Road Studios posted about it on their socials saying “One of the rising stars of London’s alternative latin scene, Esteban Card presents a unique twist on traditional Colombian music with his new album ‘INELEMENTUM’. Mastered by Alex Wharton at Abbey Road, the record melds the traditional sounds of the ancestral drumming from Colombia’s Caribbean coast with cutting-edge, organic production. Listen to ‘Al Mirarte’ from the record on Abbey Road Cuts” which is their Spotify playlist. INELEMENTUM has aired on different radio stations of the likes of Woldwide-FM, SOAS radio, Netil Radio and Latina Stereo in Colombia. Esteban was also within the finalist at The Lukas 2019, the Latin UK awards under for ‘Best Album of the Year’ and runner up for ‘Alternative Act of the Year’.

Esteban is currently writing his new EP based purely on Bullerengue and also embarking on a new project to record and document traditional music from the Colombian caribbean coast.
